Israel: London Region express horror but National Executive Committee content

Peace Israeli style

The following motion was submitted to the last NEC meeting by London Region: "This Regional Council is horrified at the slaughter being carried out by the Israeli army, police and settlers against Palestinian protesters. We note that, as of the end of November, more than 200 Palestinian protesters had been killed and several thousand injured. Of these 30% were under the age of 16 and 60% were killed by shots to the head and upper body. This shoot-to-kill policy is unjustifiable. There are also many reports of attacks on ambulances and medics.

We also condemn the use by Israel of tanks, helicopter gunships and anti- tank weapons against civilian demonstrators. We call for an immediate end to all arms sales for Israel.

We extend our full support to the Palestinian people in their struggles against dispossession and massacres. We demand that Israel halts immediately all military attacks against the Palestinian people, and call for an independent commission of enquiry into the massacres. If it finds evidence of war crimes or crimes against humanity, we call for the prosecution of the perpetrators.

We note that although the Israeli army has shot dead several Palestinian citizens of Israel, it has taken no action against the mobs of Israel Jews which have been carrying out pogroms in Palestinian towns, killing civilians and second class citizens, subject to discriminatory practices.

The NEC summarily rejected the London region motion as 'one-sided, sectarian and in conflict with NEC policy agreed several months ago.'
