Apologies for the delay in getting back to you – as you can imagine it has been a very busy day of meetings, contact telephone calls, e-mails etc, etc.
Update on the day’s proceedings:
Factory leaflet carried out first thing this morning.
9:00 am Confederated Site Committee Meeting (Jerry not in attendance) – proposal passed by Stewards that, if Jerry dismissed, ballot to be carried out as soon as possible.
Stewards voted for Mass Meeting of members to be held off-site so that Jerry could address meeting if he so wished.
Meetings held with Day Shift and Link Shift (Night Shift meeting to be held 10:30 pm this evening).
Chairman of CSC, Ray Bazeley, fronted Meetings and put decision of full Shop Steward’s Meeting to membership; asked for and obtained endorsement of that position and opened Meetings up to Test Convener and Stewards to address membership.
Jerry addressed membership, giving full history of events leading up to and including the present position. This address was an inspiration to all and was a privilege to listen to.
Proposal from members and not recommendation from Union officials to withdraw labour in support of Jerry Hicks carried unanimously on both Day Shift and Link Shift meetings.
Numerous messages of support received throughout the course of the day (keep them coming) Jerry and the Stewards eternally grateful for this overwhelming show of solidarity.
The disciplinary/kangaroo court will take place at 8:30 am on this Friday, 15 July. Prior to this a show of unity will occur at 8:00 am outside Whittle House (Gypsy Patch Lane). It is crucial that as many people as possible turn up to show their allegiance and support for Jerry.
See you there!
Jon Locke, Test Operations Shop Steward
For and on behalf of Jerry Hicks, Convenor and CSC Shop Stewards Rolls-Royce
