Report of the First amicus London Regional Council

The Gazette won everything at yesterday's London Regional Council meeting.

There was no organised right and all elections were unopposed. The results:

Chair - Pete Gillard

Finance - Ian Rez

Health & Safety - Paul Maybin

Education - Raymond Morell

Equalities - Lesley Hammond

CAC - Raymond Morell

TUC - Lesley Hammond & Phil Willis

We passed a proposed SO amendment to add two Management Committee members for Organising & Recruitment and Campaigns & Publicity. We hope the NEC will approve these - they were agreed unanimously.

We agreed to allow visitors to RC meetings. They will be given automatic speaking rights to propose motions submitted from their branch.

We agreed to produce a précis of RC meetings - similar to that from the NEC

- to be circulated to all branches, sector committees, etc. This is part of a process to turn the RC outwards as a campaigning organisation. We're putting together a preliminary budget quickly agreeing a whole set of training events, etc, designed to bring in lay members.

We had a good discussion on the pensions campaign and agreed to make it a priority for London campaigning.

In conclusion, everything the Left wanted was passed overwhelmingly.

Anything proposed by the right (there was really only two of them) was defeated. The non-aligned members of the RC voted with us consistently. It would be difficult to imagine a better start.
