Re: Roger Lyons

Following consideration and recommendations by the GP&FC, you authorised your Chair, Vice-Chairs and the General Secretary to seek a resolution of the question of Roger’s role and status following the Certification Officer’s decision to remove him from the office of Joint General Secretary.

Following the advice of a senior QC we established the position to be one whereby Roger should be regarded as being employed by the union under his 1992 contract of employment (the 2001 arrangements being void).  Consequently Roger’s position would be to revert to the role of Assistant General Secretary with appropriate salary adjustments as per that contract.

We met with Roger accordingly last week and I am happy to report to you that he has now signed a compromise agreement under which he ceases employment with the Union on 30^th June 2004, under the same VR terms and limits as were applied to other staff and officers in the December 2003 VR offer.Subject
