For The attention Of Derek Simpson – General Secretary
Dear Colleague
Re: Construction National
Sector Committee – Complaint
I
write on behalf of the Construction National Sector Committee who met on
The
Construction NSC wish to place on record their utter dismay and disgust at the blatant
disregard of members wishes who voted clearly in favour of the election of all
Full Time Officers at our recent conference in Brighton. Indeed whilst a
Construction Section emergency motion at conference was ruled out of order,
Conference was none the less aware that the Construction delegates present all
wished for the post of National Officer (Construction & Contracting) to be
the first for many years to be dealt with as an elected post and the motion
reflected this wish clearly.
The
NSC believe that the timing of Brother Corby’s departure is immaterial to the
principle at hand and that any vacant Full Time Officer positions including
those of National Officers should now stand for democratic election by members
rather than be appointed. This principle is supported and upheld wholeheartedly
by the Construction NSC and was publicly supported by the Construction NSC
organising officer, Tom Hardacre.
It
is envisaged that candidates who apply for an appointed post (if the
appointment method were to remain for this post) will receive no support from
members within the Construction and Contracting industries thus rendering the
position untenable. For this reason, a number of our experienced industry
specific officers have stated that they will not apply for the appointed post.
We
would advise you that such is the strength of feeling regarding this matter, it
our intention to take matters to external arbitration should the appointed post
not be rescinded with immediate effect and replaced with one which is to be
democratically elected by our industry.
I
await your prompt response in due course.
Yours
Fraternally
Meurig
