Dear Colleague
Decision of the Certification Officer – Tenure of
Office of Joint General SecretarySubject
On Friday 14th May the Certification
Officer directed that Roger Lyons should relinquish his office forthwith.
Following a special
meeting of the GP&FC it was agreed that the union would not appeal the
verdict and instead would evaluate the consequences, taking account of the CO
ruling and any contractual arrangements held between Roger Lyons and Amicus.
It was acknowledged
that the CO decision did not affect Roger’s period as President of the TUC,
moreover that we shall continue to offer support in that role.
However it is
necessary to show a clear distinction with the facilities formerly
afforded. Accordingly I have agreed
that Marion Watson-Blake will continue secretarial support and Tony Daly will provide
reasonable support with transport. It is now expected that all research and publicity
matters be handled on Roger’s behalf by the TUC.
In order to avoid a
charge of non-compliance the foregoing is
the limit of support.
All correspondence
will now be routed directly to me irrespective of the addressee and my office
will be responsible for passing on any private or TUC matters to Roger. A full report will
be made to the NEC and details will be circulated after final considerations
have been made.
