North Berwick Traveller 05-May-2007

As the first Scottish Solo traveller of 2007 at Bardowie Loch was abandoned in beautiful sunshine but no wind, this was the first event that Solos actually started a race. Turnout was good at 18, due mainly to a strong local contingent and very good representation from Largo Bay. The forecast was for a light Southerly, but with the prospect of a strong sun, competitors looked forward to a good Easterly sea breeze. In fact the sun never really got into top gear, and the sea breeze was gentle and just a bit fickle.

Kevan Gibb (LargoBaySC) won the first race, with Michael Alexander (EastLothianYC) second and Patrick Burns (LargoBaySC) third. Derek Gibb (LargoBaySC) won race two ahead of Keith Milroy (EastLothianYC) and Kevan. After some difficulty getting the third race started (!), Sam Thompson (WigtownBaySC) sailing a borrowed Speed Solo won with Kevan second and James Sandison (EastLothianYC) third.

A gentle introduction to the season, and thanks to ELYC for a great event.

1st Kevan Gibb #4745, LBSC; 2nd Sam Thompson #545, WBSC; 3rd Keith Milroy #4517, ELYC.
