Prestwick Traveller 21-July-2007

The travellers to Prestwick were greeted by a still and grey day but at least it was dry. Eight Solos turned up with numbers being hit by a clash with the school summer holidays.

Race 1 started in a gentle F2 north easterly which lasted about five minutes before doubling in strength and this quickly shook up the pack. Leading down the first reach of the rectangle, sausage, rectangle course was Kevan Gibb closely followed by Keith Milroy and Barrie McLean. The order remained the same until Keith capsized at the gybe mark to let Barrie through with Ali Gordon following on in third. Derek Gibb recovered well from his capsize to finish in fourth.

For race 2 the wind returned to F2 and the sun made an occasional appearance. Barrie McLean led up the first beat followed by Gordon Tosh, Derek Gibb and Kevan Gibb. Barrie and Gordon swapped places all round the course but with Gordon showing better downwind speed, he led into the last mark and was able to cover Barrie up the last beat to take the win. Barrie was second and Derek third.

Race 3 saw Barrie having to leave the course early for a prior commitment. The start saw Kevan Gibb and Gordon Tosh racing hard up the first beat with Kevan covering every move Gordon made. This continued all round the course with some extremely close racing. Kevan led into the last mark and held the lead to the finish with Gordon in second. Ali Gordon fought well to take third place.

Despite numbers being down, we had a good days racing, with competition being tight, fair and fun.
