ers of Club of the Year 2011

At the their Annual Dinner, Sheffield and District LTA President, Bob Buxton presented the Club of the Year award to Stocksbridge. He told the guests that this award does not just reflect on success by winning titles but also by the efforts in encouraging and promoting tennis as well. Apart from winning two titles Stocksbridge were one of the first clubs in the area to achieve Clubmark status, have an extensive coaching set up for a relatively small club, have increased the number of teams competing in the last few years, both senior and junior, and have provided free tennis for youngsters in the summer holidays by obtaining funding assistance from the local Council.

A large contingent of Stocksbridge Tennis Club men attended the Sheffield and District LTA Annual Dinner to collect their two cups were gob-smacked to then be awarded the Club of the Year!
The following night at club chair Martin Jackson's 60th birthday party Head Coach Chris Annable presented the award to a very surprised and proud Martin.

Chair Martin said the club success was due

to lots of reasons.
Stocksbridge Town Council has supported the club summer schemes over ten years to introduce youngsters to tennis.
Head Coach Chris Annable inspired many of those youngsters to play more and helped motivate and improve older players.
Some of those youngsters are now senior club players such as Matt Turton who so successfully organised the Late Summer Men's team. Ryan Bagshaw and Tom Cavanagh are active players also coaching a new wave of youngsters.
Claire Wood has contributed a huge amount of time coaching mini tennis and juniors and organises the whole junior program playing as many children as possible in the team best suited to their ability.
The club prides itself on playing as many adult teams as possible to give all members the opportunity to play in teams.
Many more members contribute in coaching, running teams, handling finances, membership, and secretarial duties, cleaning, gardening, buying sweat shirts, doing electrics and all the parents who bring their children to matches and organise. Thank you, all of you!
We like to play. It is all good fun!
