The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

Since our inception the number and type of activities arranged by the Club has grown, and members compete all over the country.

Members include The British Driving Society, International and National Judges, and National Driving Trials competitors. We currently have the double National Supreme Indoor Driving Champion and both the Novice Pony and Novice Horse National Outdoors Points Leagues Champions. Course builders, carriage builders and a great many ordinary people, who just enjoy their horses, ponies or donkeys and, in one case, a mule.

Having fun is an important part of being an Oaks member, but safety is a priority at all events organised by the Club.

We try to include something for everyone to do in our programme of events; from road drives; Novice and Beginners; indoor driving events; outdoor O.D.E.'s; a week's holiday in the New Forest; training weekend for all abilities; plus plenty of social events. We also issue a newsletter every two months to keep you up to date with all current events and members news.

Not all of our members have their own turnouts, but they are nevertheless a very important part. Many help run our events: it takes a large number of people to run an outdoor One Day Event. We also like to encourage Juniors into the sport and offer them reduced membership and entry fees.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at the Oaks Driving Club. Take a look at the Events Calendar to see what is happening next.

When applying for membership please also fill in the OAKS DRIVING CLUB MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONNAIRE.

The questionnaire must be completed by anyone applying to join the Oaks Driving Club. It is intended to give some idea of your driving experience, and is required by our insurance company. Once the questionnaire has been looked at by the Committee you will either be granted full driving membership and will be welcome to drive at any of our events, or you will be granted probationary membership. This means that you are most welcome to drive at Oaks events, and once you have demonstrated your competence full membership will be granted.
