DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

14 MILES FROM HOME-Please Forget CD-EP

“Please Forget” begins with jangly guitars as the lead vocal just soars in with majesty and strength as the band build steadily towards what becomes this hugely anthemic chorus that just takes your breath away as more multi-part harmonies combine with the lead vocal for a chorus that's as uplifting as it is memorable, becoming the true centrepieces around which the success of the song revolves. The guitars strengthen as the piece twists and turns, rises and falls, ploughs ahead with purpose as the vocals gather strength and the whole thing flies like an eagle on currents of pure indie bliss, an acapella break leading into the towering chorus of vocals and guitars, driven by solid rhythms, that brings the track to its glorious finale. “Calm Down” starts with rattling percussion and ringing guitar lines before the riff moves in and the track veritably bounces away on waves of surging, jangling guitars as the drums and bass bounce and drive, before the vocals come in with that wondrous Scottish accented lilt to the words. They cruise through the verses before suddenly entering a staccato chorus of vocals that moves seamlessly into a multi-part harmony chorus before driving back into the verses, a master work of arrangements as the song inevitably impinges on your consciousness with its heady and cleverly assembled sea of arranging, singing, playing and producing, rising slowly only to fly effortlessly rather than take off to the heavens. The EP ends with “Rainbow” where an anguished vocal can be heard over ringing guitars and stick percussion as the bass provides a resonant backdrop before the guitars enter and gather strength, only to disappear and leave the previous set of sounds to deliver another verse. The vocals are taut to the point of breaking but sung superbly, aided by more multi-part harmonies as, finally, the band join the dots and this solid sea of indie songwriting drives forward, twisting and turning, dropping back and rising up, taking you on a journey that's a gem of writing and arranging for any indie band, played and sung to perfection. Overall, it's a totally faultless example of new Scottish contemporary indie-rock-pop at its finest
