HAMPER-Lullabye CD-EP

The first thought you have within about 20 seconds of this beginning, is that it's a bit slow for a single and doesn't really have a commerical sensibility. About 20 seconds later, you're caught in its spell and by the time the first minute is up, you're wrapped up in its cocoon of warmth, splendour and slowly spiralling beauty. This bandhave a unique ability to deliver music that is both haunting and spellbinding, the lead guitar figure so economic and yet out on its own as it provides a musical lead that rings like a bell an is every bit as joyous, its sonorous notes raining down to great effect. That the rhythm section enters and provides the solid state strength of gradually building, propulsive rhythmic foundations is just another layer of hypnotic beef that fits like a glove. Above all this, a female vocal oozes warmth, affection, sensual depth and fireside bliss, delivering a verse and what amounts to a chorus that hits your heart like Cupid's arrow in flight, as you are inexorably caught in its spell. The whole track becomes this slowly building aurora that fills the sky with colour as the band and vocalist light up your life with a song to die for, as gorgeous a ballad as it is strong and proud, and the sort of track that - and, trust me, I did!! - you can play six times on the trot and still not get enough of it. Just superb, this ha quality written all over it, the production is first class, the band's sound totally unique and surely the stuff of dreams - in a perfect world, this would be a prescription for anyone wanting their lives uplifted - as it is, seek it out and get seduced by its charms - you won't regret a second.
Oh yeh - there's a second track - called "Tiptoing", it's a bit pacier than the title track, still possesses all the class of the previous one, more direct, every bit as strong if slightly less hypnotic on first hearing. But, play it again and, despite the fact that it's still over far too quick, you'll see that it hits a different emotional button inside you, one that taps your feet as well as hitting your heart, and the more you hear it, the more you'll see inside it as it, in turn, sees inside you. Three listens in and - bingo!! - another gem.
This is stunning - no other word for it - I can but envy the lucky label that signs this band for a full album!! For now, essential listening.
