BEAST HEAD - More Lethal Than A Colossal Snorle Bane E.P.

A what? - oh, never mind - let's get on with this. The band are from the Shetland Isles and produce a rousing, roaring mass of driving metal with a suitably racing pace, but pure "old skool" in its sound and approach. The production here means that the drum sound is a bit flat, but the guitar and bass are on fire as the opening song, "Hollow", takes off like a rocket, with a good if not achingly memorable, before the lead guitar scythes a solo, and the song returns, only to deliver another verse then accelerate into an even faster dimension.
"Condemned" follows and here the drums initially sound very strange but then the band comes in and things return to normal, as guitars burn away and this monster of a metal song drives forward. Sadly the production does let it down a bit on here in certain ways, although the slab of solid metal that the song is, does come through and, if turned up loud enough, will lead to air guitar symptoms, for sure. Trying to think of a comparison band isn't easy, but it's trad metal to many a degree and anyone into the '70's/'80's variety should be at home with this smoking brew.
Finally "Core Rotten" continues the power and effect of the previous track only unleashes a much more tougher sound and even the drums sound good here as the song takes off and the bass pounds away while lead and riffing guitars complete the heavy rock picture. Full of promise, this lot really need to be given some real studio to work in, as on the evidence of these tracks, they have a raging metal masterwork inside them waiting to come out.
