SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

CARDIAC: Burn It CD Single

Out of the ashes of a band called Elysium, who I saw and reviewed at the 2006 finals of the Carling Battle Of The Bands in Glasgow, comes a new band called Cardiac - and the difference between the two can only be said to be mind-blowing, if this fantastic two-track single is anything to go by. For a start, the production is just fantastic, allowing the whole band to roar into life on the lead and title track, with a whole expanse of guitars and rhythm section really letting loose as the, seemingly, multi-tracked and powerful, in-tune vocals really deliver the goods to perfection. As contemporary nu-metal-meets-indie rock goes, this band are at a peak already - and they've only just started. There's a strong element of Foo Fighters, but more distinctly UK as the towering sound and stunning arrangements are more in keeping with the new breed of rock bands such as Brigade and FFAF. But they write some seriously addictive songs and wrap them up in arrangements that simply can't fail to have you wanting to turn up the volume and drown in this glorious sea of guitars, bass, drums and vocals. It's solid, heavy, inventive, direct and, above all, commercial, with both tracks making you want to put the CD on repeat play. This really is a fantastic new band in action and I sincerely hope I get to see them live sometime soon, but if this is just their beginning, a whole album promises to be an absolute gem - the world awaits………
