Edinburgh trio with a female drummer who also does lead vocals, provide us with their finest song to date as “Wheels” takes your heart. The song itself carries you along on three fronts. First there are the deliciously rich, almost husky, vocals from Sarah T Jones, vocals which cascade all over the song, rising from low to high in a heartbeat but with a flow to them and a distinctive sound that puts her and the band in a category all its own. Then, there's the song itself – power, passion and dynamics all mixed in one headlong rush of a song that, with several hooks along the way, captures your attention and your heart, with propulsive drive and commercial rush that wins you over no matter how many times you play it. Then there's the band's playing, Rolling drumming, soaring guitar work that twangs, riffs and powers out as bass provides the stable undercurrent. All in all, one magnificent song. “Both Ends Burning” is every bit as quality, this one with more urgency to it as Sarah reveals more of those gloriously rich vocals as the song powers ahead, verses leading into this memorable chorus-hook that sticks around in your head, in a good way, for a long time after you've heard it. With driving rhythm work and scorching, ringing guitar work, it's one stormer of a song, for sure, on what is one faultless two-tracker from a highly individual and superb sounding band.
