SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

THE DETOURS - Ignite CD-EP

Three -tracker that kicks off in fine roaring style with “One Last Chance” where you'll find a rush of memorable guitar leads and riffing over solid drums and pumping bass as the lead vocal soars into view and the singer delivers this really impassioned sea of verses that just surge over the driving backing, into a chorus that's faster but takes off with authority as the guitars are all around you and full of bite, grunge and spark. The rhythm section are rock-solid and dependable as the song electrifies by alternating between verses and choruses without letting the effect go. They twist onto a mid-song avenue of anthemic proportions that's slightly decelerated but then it's into a lone sea of a chorus as the drums hammer down and it's back into the almighty tidal wave that is the real hook of the song – quite stunning and the sort of song that you want to play again immediately, even before finding out what else they have to offer. But you resist the temptation, to find the title track that kicks off more metal-esque than the previous one but quickly settles into a fiery mix of riffing rock and the style of the previous song complete with another huge chorus full of harmony vocals, a searing heat guitar solo, the massive sounding band at work and just one stunning song that's got what it takes, the exemplary mix of rock and indie at its finest.
But then you'd reckon without the last track “Free” that manages to be every bit as incendiary as the previous two, again, one huge sound of rolling riffs, mighty bass, pounding drumming, dirty guitar riffs, red hot guitar leads, spat-out but sung to perfection lead vocals, full of feeling and urgency, a stunningly delivered set of verses, another hugely uplifting tower of a chorus and just a stunner of a song.
It may only be three tracks, but it's an EP of which you're not going to tire of hearing and an EP that will occupy a regular part of your listening pleasure for a long time to come – at least, until their album arrives – it's THAT good so get it now!
