DIRTY ROSE - 6-Track Demo CD-EP
With 6 tracks to go at, it's not the sort of EP that lends itself to a blow by blow account, more something that, once you put on, you just want to go to the end, or at least the first four tracks, that's for sure. What I can tell you is that this band play a decidedly powerful brew of heavy metal that's got bluesy undercurrents in its vocals, despite their being a fairly strong and intense impassioned holler, mixed with tons of searing electric lead guitar and almost thrash styled rhythms. It's definitely a demo although the quality overall is decent, the main thing being that, at times, particularly the last couple of tracks, the guitars are a bit too low in the mix and the drums sound tinny. The daft part is that they clearly have something to offer as the songs in general more than hold your attention and the playing has its strength with some surging guitar work throughout. To use a comparison that may make you wonder what on earth I've been drinking, it reminds me very much as a cross between defunct Dundee band Awaiting Exile and “St Anger”-styled Metallica. If this is on sale at any of their gigs for a couple of quid, it's well worth you picking one up, that's for sure, but what it does reveal is promise, potential and that there's definitely more to come.
