THE GETDOWNS - E.P.

Hailing from Monifieth, a young band with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, humour and ability to compose. No track titles supplied, but the opener is just superb - and fantastic - with its effective chorus of "if you like proper music, stop listening now" a song that fires off one and a half minutes of guitar fuelled pop-punk that really smoulders, all topped off with a fantastic sense of humour. Track 2 features their trademark rhythmic swing, with a sea of guitar riffs that sound slightly under-recorded, as upfront vocals provide another smile-inducing lyric over the driving rhythms. Track 3 has an almost reggae-ish quality to it at the beginning and then fires up with wildly riffing drive as another slice of raw '70's-esque punk soars into life. Finally the track that comes closest to the power of the live set and a song that, while simplistic, really works as the band steams ahead. As a demo, it's enjoyable and a good intro to the band, as an indicator of how good this band are live, it's just a hint - get out and see them at the earliest opportunity.
