MAYA 29: Akhaisha CD Single
The lead track is this massively powerful juggernaut of slow-mo prog metal splendour as the band provide a huge bass line that is positively floor-shaking, while the drums clatter away and the guitar kinda surrounds the track with this haze of sound as the brooding, mid-range female vocals deliver this menacing sounding anthem which rises into life and takes no prisoners in its determined path through to your heart. The second track powers into life from this Edinburgh rock-prog outfit, complete with female lead vocalist, and the overall feel is of a bizarre mix of late period Hole and eighties Rush. From the opening energy rush through the brief calm of the mid-section, there's a decidedly epic feel of the best that Coutney Love's band had to offer, combined with an instrumental depth that makes it more than just rock. An energy surges through the playing and singing to take things up more than a notch from the opener, but take the two combined and this is one fine, fine and strong sounding band who can really deliver the goods with venom, force and intricacy.
