SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

SHOSHANA – Worth The Trouble CD Mini-Album

Glasgow-based singer-songwriter, armed with just acoustic guitar and vocals, with a debut 9-tracker of original songs that she sings and plays faultlessly throughout. The CD begins with “So Much Itself” as the richly textured, strong, mid-range vocal soars out in passionate force over strummed acoustic guitar that's decidedly melodic and very emotive. The song is quite intense for an acoustic offering and her vocal really hits the high spots showing what a range she has and that she can do it seemingly effortlessly, a very powerful performance of an excellent song. “Just A Moment”, although a ballad, is sung with great strength and tenderness, leaving you feeling that it's so much more than “another acoustic ballad”, as her powerful, and at times positively jaw-dropping, vocal cuts through above the strummed acoustic guitar work, the sheer passion and loose delivery, capturing your attention on what is a truly uplifting song that few acoustic artists manage to deliver to such meaningful degree. “Sleep The Same” is a soaring slice of acoustic passion and yearning, opening with some emotive guitar work as the higher pitched vocal soars in and delivers a song with high-flying wonderment, gliding like a bird and every bit as uplifting, another powerful vocal delivery commanding your attention. The songs themselves have lyrical content that's close to, and manages to capture, your heart, with a mix of observational, story-telling and full-on feeling experiences, all of which make you feel that you know this woman, that you can relate to most of that which she sings so eloquently and strongly. “Beckoning” drops back a little as she gets ever closer to a more traditional ballad-like structure in terms of pace, but, over the gently strummed guitar chords, that vocal just continues to work its magic, the sonorous richness and emotional depth combining to mesmerise you every time you hear it. “A Port” is the first song that accelerates the tempo a little, sounding more “trad” folky than anything so far heard, but still played and delivered with graceful and commercial attention to emotive detail, as the personal lyrical standpoint has you listening intently as the resonant acoustic guitar takes hold. Four further, equally captivating songs, of quality and distinction follow, to complete a fantastic, emotive and brilliantly played, sung and composed offerings from a new talent on the acoustic side of songwriting who really deserves to be a lot wider recognised.
