DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

THE BANG - Is There Anybody Out There CD Single

The one thing I never expected from the first 20 seconds of a single by The Bang was that I was going to be absolutely captivated by delicacy, yet this is exactly what happens – and it all goes up from there...... Against the backdrop of rippling electric guitar notes, the lead singer comes straight in with an emotive plea of a vocal that's pure Scottish indie at its best as it just flows to your heart in a sea of loveliness. Then, just as suddenly, the band hammer in as the drums possess crunch, the bass drives a shuddering undercurrent and the guitars flare into life, as the lead singer soars upwards, harmonising with himself and multi-tracked in the background, as the song rises up only to drop back to the opening style as what turns out to be two sets of choruses rather than traditional verses, hook you in to the heat and beauty to hypnotic degree. There's a break as the lead guitar intensifies against rolling drums before the hammer comes down once more and it's right into the uplifting chorus and strident instrumental force as the band kicks out to deliver one final run to the finish line and it's all gone – a song that's occupied a place in your head and heart as much as it strikes out as a slice of impassioned, memorable indie songwriting excellence. Superbly written, arranged, sung, played and produced, this is one gem of a track.
The other track is “Get Back” and here the band start with a light cyclical riff before they roar right from the start as they drive forward into a song where the riffing is a mix of fuzzy and red hot, while the bass pounds and the drumming is really mighty, as the chords cascade and rise, while the vocal flies ahead through the flow of the verses, the tumbling rhythms and diving riffs ushering ion a brief multi-tracked hook of a chorus that adds to the enjoyment. The singer's got a really distinctive voice as he delivers the song in an almost easy-going sense of power, while the arrangement bears all the hallmarks of the band with that heady sound, the air of slight darkness, the uplift of the hooks, the high-flying singing and the strident guitars set against mid-paced, rock-solid rhythms. It's a track to which you warm, the more and more you hear it, and at just under two and a half minutes, even manages to leave you wanting more. Two great tracks from a band who are hotly tipped for future glory.
