HERE LIES A WARNING - Keep Your Head Under The Water CD-EP

The first offering from this metal band from Fife is nothing short of superb – a 5 track CD that really shows what this band are capable of performing. The opener, “Make This Night Our Own”, is a mid-paced heavyweight as the growled and howled, low-down evil menace of a vocal, veritably cannons the words out of sharp teeth glistening like razors. An immense sounding bass thunders underneath and the drums crash around, while on top of all this, the twin guitars thresh and thrash within pre-arranged tolerance limits, electing to be on the melodic side of the hardcore fence. The next track up is just as solid, just as tight and just as powerful, all of which makes the jaw drop even further, when “Ashore” emerges, a track so breathtakingly beautiful on a lengthy instrumental you're looking at the sleeve just to make sure you've got the right band!! Without a pause for breath, it segues into the next track and changes shape once again, this time turning into a glorious slow-paced rock ballad, sounding very much like a cross between Seether and Pearl Jam, complemented by similar sounding emotive vocals, chiming twin guitars ringing out and stuttering, lurching drums underpinned by rivers of bass. Then the vocalist erupts as the guitar density ignites but the pace remains the same – an absolute master stroke of arranging, as the deliberate strength of the vocal comes tearing to a conclusion. “Submerge” ends the EP by delivering a remarkable knockout blow on a positive army of vocals, crushingly heavy staccato rhythms, an undercurrent of dense guitar riffing, the whole thing lurching aaway as it coalesces into a building roar. The pace actually then accelerates as the lead guitar rises up and plays this memorably cyclical melody alongside the deep and dark vocals. Then, suddenly, it drops down on a gentle guitar riff only to ascend in a mushroom cloud of guitars, roaring vocals, stuttering drums and throbbing bass, the whole effect just awesome as it brings to a close, one amazing CD that states the case in no uncertain terms that here's a band capable of giving hardcore metal a whole new lease of life.
