Admissions
The Governing Body Admissions Committee is responsible for the
allocation of places at the Nursery and the School. They will admit
up to thirty pupils in each class. Applications for Nursery and
Reception places should be received by the Governing Body, in accordance
with the HCC timetable set out in the County forms. Late applications
will only be considered after all other applications have been dealt
with. Children wishing to enter the school in other year groups
will be admitted if there is an available place. We hold continued
interest lists for classes which are full.
Admissions Policy
Visits
Two mornings are set aside each half-term in order to offer prospective
parents the opportunity to view the School during the normal working
day. Parents are invited to meet with the Headteacher and tour the
classrooms and buildings. Information on the dates offered may be
obtained by either writing or telephoning the school office.
Admissions Policy
Little Heath School opened its own Nursery unit in January 1998.
It is necessary to complete two application forms - a pink one for
the Nursery and a white one for the School. These forms will need
to be submitted to the School in the year prior to admission to
the Nursery and in the year prior to admission to the Reception
Class.
We follow the timetable set down by Hertfordshire County Council
(HCC) who will send County forms to all parents who have a child
in the appropriate year group. Details are picked up from the local
health records held by family doctors. The County form in each case
must be returned to any Hertfordshire Primary School.
Children will initially be allocated a place at the Nursery and
will be admitted under the two-intake system – those whose
4th birthday falls between 1 September and 28 February in September
and those whose 4th birthday falls between 1 March and 31 August
in January. If they are subsequently offered a place in the Reception
Class, they will move up during the year in September or January
as before.
The following is the procedure for admission to Little
Heath School and Nursery:-
• The Governing Body Admissions Committee is responsible for
the allocation of places at the Nursery and the School.
• The academic year runs from September to August.
• 30 Nursery and 30 School places are offered each year to
children whose birthday falls within the period.
• Applications should be received by the Governing Body, in
accordance with the HCC timetable set out in the County forms. Late
applications will only be considered after all other applicants
have been dealt with.
• Applications for Nursery places and applications for Reception
places will be considered by the Governing Body according to the
HCC timetable.
• Parents will be notified of the allocation of Reception
places according to the HCC timetable.
• Children will be admitted to the Nursery and the School
without reference to ability or aptitude.
Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available,
the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below,
to decide which pupils will be offered places:
Admission to the Nursery
1. Children with a sibling currently attending the School or the
Nursery.
2. Children whose parents are current school employees.
3. Proximity of the child’s home to Little Heath School as
measured using the distance definition adopted by the LEA.
Admission to the School
1. Children with a sibling currently attending the School or the
Nursery.
2. Children whose parents are current school employees.
3. Proximity of the child's home to Little Heath School as measured
using the distance definition adopted by the LEA.
4. Attendance at Little Heath School Nursery for the allotted time.
The address that you give should be your child’s permanent
address at the time of the application. This should not be a childminder’s
address. Any change of address must immediately be notified in writing
to the School. Confirmation of your address will be sought immediately
prior to the allocation of places. The Governors have the right
to withdraw the offer of a Nursery or School place if an incorrect
address has been given.
The school operates a Continuing Interest List and all applications
for casual entrance to Little Heath School will be considered using
the following criteria:-
NURSERY
1. Children with a sibling currently attending
the School or the Nursery.
2. Children whose parents are current school employees.
3. Proximity of the child’s home to Little
Heath School as measured by a straight line on a map.
SCHOOL
1. Children with a sibling currently attending
the School or the Nursery
2. Children whose parents are current school employees
3. Proximity of the child’s home to Little
Heath School as measured by a straight line on a map.
4. Attendance at Little Heath School Nursery.
If a pupil is admitted to a class with a vacancy, the School will
not necessarily offer place(s) to sibling(s) who would enter other
class(es) which contain the maximum number of pupils.
The Governors are not obliged to accept an application for admission
to the Nursery or the School if:-
• The child’s admission to the Nursery or the School
would be incompatible with the approved admission arrangements as
stated above
OR
• The child’s admission would, in the opinion of the
Governing Body, prejudice efficient education or the efficient use
of resources.
If you have any questions relating to the admissions arrangements,
please contact the School Secretary.
APPEALS PROCEDURE
Parents have the right to make a formal appeal against any decision
made by or on behalf of the Governors not to admit their child into
Little Heath School. There is no right of appeal against a decision
regarding Nursery places.
If they wish to do so, parents may submit a written appeal within
a specified period of time.
Further information about the appeals procedure will be issued to
all parents who have been notified that their application has been
unsuccessful.
All formal appeals will be considered by an Appeals Committee, which
will consist of three independent members. Appeals will be held
at a local venue and parents will be notified as soon as possible
of the Committee's decision.
The Committee's decision will be binding on the Governors.
ENTRY TO SCHOOL
During the Summer term before the children enter school, parents
are invited to a meeting with the Headteacher and the Class Teacher
at which details of the child's entry and the preparation for this
are discussed. There is a programme of induction for all new children
and parents. This begins well before the official start of the child's
schooling.
