The cinema was entered for the award by a mysterious benefactor
Over 400 entries from throughout
the region were received for the awards.
John Potter, Chairman of the Volunteer Management Committee and Andrea his wife,
also a committee member, collected the award at a ceremony in Newcastle last
month
The cinema has now been
nominated to go forward to the national awards which are
to be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Tuesday 3rd October.
This is a happy coincidence as Thomas Lord, founder of the cricket ground, was
born in Thirsk in 1755!
John and Andrea Potter say
“we are very proud to collect this award on behalf of all the many
volunteers who have been involved in the Ritz Cinema over the last eleven years”.
Joyce Fox, Branch Manager,
Nationwide Building Society, Thirsk says
“I wish the Ritz Cinema every success when they
represent the region at the national finals. They have worked extremely hard to
achieve this recognition and we are lucky to have this cinema here in Thirsk”
