July 17th 2007, Century in Stone!
25 miles from Teesside and more than 3 years after it was first released, Craig Hornby's classic documentary 'A Century in Stone' pulled yet another sell out crowd, this time to the Ritz cinema in Thirsk. Almost 200 people, packed from the floor to the gods, in this fittingly historic venue which first opened back in 1912, gave a rousing round of applause at the film's end.
The show, made possible by recently
acquired digital projection equipment, was the cinema's special contribution to
the annual Thirsk Festival. Thrilled Ritz staff said "it was the biggest crowd
they had attracted to the Festival ever!"
Craig who introduced the film and took
questions from the crowd afterwards said: "I had put this project to bed and
then got a call from the Ritz. You never know how many will turn up to these
shows especially outside of Teesside so to see a full house was superb. People
were suggesting I take it Helmsley and Whitby and as ever were asking why they
hadn't seen it on TV. Like the Australia shows, two years ago, this proves that
the film is not just of interest to Teesside audiences and how pitiful BBC North
East and Tyne Tees were to reject it".
