Further Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour success

Representatives of the volunteer group who keep the Ritz Cinema in Thirsk open visited London for a prestigious national awards ceremony recently. The group had been entered for the Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour by an anonymous benefactor.

The award ceremony was held in the ‘Long Room’ at Lords Cricket Ground and 40 finalists were welcomed to see who would leave with the winning award in each of 4 categories: Young people - under 18 individual, and group, and Adults – individual, and group. The standard of entry was high with all the finalists well deserved.

Though not the winners of the Adults – Group category, the Ritz did receive a cut-crystal trophy as ’Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and Borders’ National finalists. The award was presented by Nicholas Owen of ITV’s News at Ten and Philip Williamson, Chief Executive of Nationwide. In addition to the trophy a cheque for £500 and vouchers worth £250 were awarded. The vouchers have been ear-marked for the volunteer’s annual social event meaning all will benefit from the recognition.
