Distribution of BARTONs

The information here has come from analysis of the 1881 Census.  This was made possible by using Steven Archer's GenMap software. 

BARTON is a fairly common name throughout England and by the time of the 1881 Census had spread its tentacles into both Scotland and Wales.   The largest concentrations were in Lancashire, Yorkshire, London/Middlesex, Kent & Surrey.  Sussex, where My BARTONs come from, is well down the pecking order.  While BARDEN is rare compared to BARTON the number in Sussex (222) is not dissimilar to the number of BARTONs (341).  In both cases the majority of the population resided in what is now  East Sussex.
