A few words of warning:

Tracing my Fogden ancestry in Brighton has not been without its problems.  This is because there are several Edmund (& Edward) FOGDENs.  In a number of records Edmund appears as Edward.   Not only can they sound similar but when written it can be very difficult to tell them apart.  Also while Edward is often shortened to Ted so is Edmund but Ted is invariably transcribed to Edward.
