My FOGDENs

The Donnington connection (post 1750s)

William FOGDEN (1701-1767) married Dorothy MARKS (1693-1777) at the Palace Chapel, Chichester, on 3rd December 1728.  This is their family:

Thomas FOGDEN
(1728/9-1730)
Thomas was baptised on 21st Jan 1728/29 at Boxgrove but he died 18 months later.
William FOGDEN
(1731-?)
William was baptised on 4th May 1731 at Boxgrove.  I know nothing more about him.
John FOGDEN
(1732-?)
John was baptised on 2nd November 1732 at Boxgrove.  He married Elizabeth PENNYCOD (or PENICOD) on 27th September 1757 at Boxgrove.
Henry FOGDEN
(1734-1802)
Henry was born on 28th April 1734 at Boxgrove.  He was a widower when he married Ann FRANCIS on 8th May 1763 at Chichester (St Peter the Great).  Henry was described as a shopkeeper (in Chichester).  Their first child, Ann was born at Chichester in 1764. There was another daughter, Frances, born c1767, but I do not know if this was before or after the family moved to Donnington.  After the move Henry returned to the soil and became a yeoman farmer.  He was buried at Donnington in 1802.

I think that Henry's first marriage was to Elizabeth ALLBERY on 28th April 1760 at Chichester (St Peter the Great).  Henry was described as a husbandman of Boxgrove and they must have settled in Chichester as he became a shopkeeper.  Elizabeth died in 1761 and was buried at Chichester (St Peter the Great) on 18th July.

James FOGDEN
(1737-?)
James was baptised on 21st April 1737 at Boxgrove.  He married Mary THORNTON on 27th September 1759 at Boxgrove.  He was a farmer.  They had 5 children, all of whom were baptised at Boxgrove.

Henry appears to have been the only one of William's children who moved to Donnington.  Dorothy FOGDEN, William's wife, returned to her home village of Boxgrove after William's death.  She died 10 years later but was buried at Donnington.
