The Boxgrove connection (post 1680)
Thomas FOGDEN married Mary PURDY on 15th December 1700 at St Peter the Less, Chichester. He was variously described as a husbandman, yeoman and farmer. This is their family which leads to the Donnington connection:
| William FOGDEN (1701-1767) |
William was born on 31st October 1701 at Boxgrove. In his latter years he moved to Donnington, where he was buried. |
| Thomas FOGDEN (1703-1781) |
Thomas was born on 21st October 1703 at Boxgrove. He married Ann BATMEN (or BATMAN) on 20th September 1735 at Amberley. Thomas was a farmer. They had 3 children who were all baptised at Boxgrove. Both Thomas and Ann were buried at Boxgrove. |
| John FOGDEN (1705-1778) |
John was baptised on 22nd March 1705/6 at Boxgrove. I know nothing more about him. |
| Henry FOGDEN (1709-1794) |
Henry was my 5xgreat-grandfather. He was baptised on 22nd May 1709 at Boxgrove. Henry and his family moved to Donnington about 1750. His last born, John, was baptised there in 1751. |
| Robert FOGDEN (1712-1766) |
Robert was baptised on 31st August 1712 at Boxgrove. It looks as though he moved to Donnington after his marriage in 1751 as all his children were baptised at Donnington. At the time of his marriage he was described as a carpenter. |
| Mary FOGDEN (1716-?) |
Mary was baptised on 13th July 1716 at Boxgrove. She married George WELLER, also of Boxgrove, on 13th May 1740 at the Palace Chapel, Chichester. |
| Richard FOGDEN (1720-1805) |
Richard was baptised on 24th April 1720 at Boxgrove. He married Ann MARTLEW (or MARKLEY) on 1st June 1751 at Boxgrove. This was the same day and place as his brother, Robert, was married. A double marriage? At the time of his marriage he was described as a labourer. |
Both Thomas and Mary were buried at Boxgrove - Mary in 1759 and Thomas in 1763.
