SCIENCE BLOCK BLOCKED |
Delays Hit New Science Block Dreams. |
The old science block has clearly seen better times. But when will we get the new one that we need? |
Back at school for another year and yet another new addition to the facilities on site can be found on the grave of the old wooden art shed. This clean new building was intended to house new laboratories for the Science department but instead will have only hosted the series of winter examinations which began with year 11 mocks and finished with the AS and A2 exams. You may be wondering why this is. South Gloucestershire Council had applied for government funding for the new block. it had been expected that the government would approve the project. This did not happen last year, but Chipping Sodbury School is confident that approval and funding will be given this year to complete the project. This will not only lead to the completion of the standing building, but ensure that its planned counterparts will be constructed, given the science faculty a much needed upgrade. Another two buildings are in the pipeline to leave the school with the full quota of new laboratories. In the meantime, teachers and staff are having to make do with the old Science block, even though it is well past its sell by date and its facilities are less than ideal.

While structurally sound, the block has seen better days as the rust and
degrading ceiling tiles will testify.
The sturdy old wooden tables have been mercilessly eroded by children's compass points, while pens and tippex have left their indelible graffiti. The current building will serve its purpose until the upgrades are complete, but the sooner this happens the better. |
