Kick Off

FIVE STAR RIDINGS STUN SODBURY'S LIONS.

It was the 9th October; Sodbury 6th form football team had their 1st round cup match against the Ridings. The Ridings had a weakened side, with four of their players, unavailable and they were expecting a rough ride.

Sodbury with the home advantage had no such problem with players in abundance the only key player missing was Sean Bridson.

The kick off was delayed as the Ridings arrived late. The first 40 minutes saw few chances for either side with an abundance of play in the midfield area. The deadlock was finally broken when a Ridings shot from long range rattled the cross bar, and hit stranded keeper Liam Barrett in the back, and in the opinion of the referee fell over the line. A disillusioned Sodbury kicked off and the halftime whistle was blown.

During the interval Mr. Hills was caught in two minds as to whether or not to shout or be calm. He chose to shout and fire up the Sodbury lions for the second half. This was to prove costly. A side already feeling low finally sank heads dropped and the floodgates opened accordingly. Three more Ridings goals were scored before Sodbury struck back.

A stunning chest and volley from the left foot of Mark Maidment giving Sodbury a glimmer of hope with 10 minutes to play. This revival was short lived. A fifth goal for the Ridings side and all chances of a come back were cast away.

Sodbury now have a time to improve upon this performance in a series of training sessions and friendlies until the league competition starts after Christmas.

GEOFF HURST EXCLUSIVE!

FOREIGNERS NOT IN OUR LEAGUE!

In a stark warning to Vitalijs Astafjevs, England legend Sir Geoff Hurst slammed inadequate foreign players for stunting English youth football.

Sir Geoff said that many foreign players in the Premiership are worth having and that our youngsters can learn a lot from them. But there are also many foreigners in the English leagues that are basically a waste of space.

Sir Geoff’s outburst was made to sixth-former Paul Blackwell at the opening of the new Nationwide branch in Yate.

Paul Blackwell said “It was the best day of my life but I was shocked by what Sir Geoff said.”

Many people queued up to meet the 1966 hero But Paul was lucky enough to get to speak to the former England star.

Proof that they met!
