WORKING WITH SPIRIT
I thought I would start this section by talking about how I address spirit. I used to see spirit as just God and so I would usually address God by saying "Hi Father what are we going to do today?" or "Hi Father can you help me with ......" Over the years as I learnt more about our spiritual friends I've changed that to "Hi Father, hi angels, hi all my unseen friends, what are we going to do today?" My unseen friends include my guides, power animals and any other elements of spirit that are around. I do this because I don't want anyone to feel left out. If I say "Hi Spirit" I believe it includes them all and allows the most appropriate to respond.
I must admit that in all the years I've been working in the field I've never come across any bad/evil/dark elements of spirit. Only sad human beings with problems that they project out from themselves. I also believe that if you approach life with love and with the love of Spirit around you, guarding and guiding you, then nothing spiritual can harm you anyway.
If any of you out there think I'm being irreverent then let me tell you that the God of the "Old Testament" is unknown to me. The God, Angels, and unseen friends that I know are full of love and light, forgiveness, and laughter. They help me all they can and guide me on my path. We joke all the time, usually at the absurdity of life and the things that happen to me and others. When things start to go pear-shaped I will look around and say "Ok father" or "Ok Angels", "What's all this about?" In doing so I can almost hear them giggling around me.
And yes, Spirit, and I don't mean whiskey, will help us in all sorts of ways and the more we work with them and communicate with them the better it becomes. It's usually said that they cannot help us unless we ask. But I've seen them help when we say we want or need something but haven't specifically asked them. They only respond if it's in our own best interest.
My partner, Jenny is an expert at manifesting things she wants. On one occasion she heatedly told me that we needed new curtains. Spirit must have been listening because the next thing I knew I discovered/was attracted to a new shop I passed and low and behold it was full of end of line new curtains. We recurtained the house with new items for just a few quid. Thank you Father, Angels, Spirit or whoever was responsible. We'll take this further on the next page - "Whispers and Coincidences".
So where do all our spiritual friends fit in. I'm still working on all of this but so far I believe the following:
Father (God) is in overall charge but works through other elements of spirit. If you say "Hi Father I've got a problem here, can you help?" then any element of sprit that can do so will do so. We always get the help we need if it is appropriate for us but not always to our time parameters. The husband of one of my healing teachers used to say "I know god provides but I do wish he wouldn't leave it to the last minute." I think I've reached an understanding now that God/Spirit will provide me with what I need early rather than at the last minute but I must admit that should resources come in and I can't see what they are for I'm likely to spend them on something other than what they might have been meant for!
The Angels seem to be here to help us and protect us in the day to day running of our lives. I always ask for protection when I set off in the car. On the two occasions I forgot in recent years I wrote off one of our cars and had the replacement stolen. The Angels/ Spirit helped us get the stolen car back again and repair it, however. I had another very surreal crash recently when I hadn't asked for protection. At the time I was going through one of my regular doubting phases. I.e. does this really work or is it just my imagination.
I always ask the Angels for help if I need a parking space or am finding it impossible to move out into a road because of traffic. My students all say that the Angels help them in the same way and think they are wonderful. I have found they are great fun to have around me and improve the joy of life no end.
Our Guides, I believe, are here to help us with our life tasks and lessons, guiding us into fulfilling our earthly spiritual commitments. I must admit I don't seem to have as much contact with my guides as I would like, but I'm working on that.
The Power Animals, I believe, are elements of ourselves or spirit that we can tap into.
My partner was having trouble getting up a mountain one day and asked "Mountain Goat" to help. Her ability improved no end. The (power) animals can also be a means of communication between us and spirit. So if a whole series of woodpeckers suddenly appear in the garden I know that I must look up the woodpecker message in one of my books and see what it means.
