During 1983 twelve members of a local archaeological society at Creswell Crags took a keen interest in bats. It was realised that this interest in these fascinating animals was going to continue. A decision was made to start a bat group in the area to support 'The Nature Conservancy Council' (the predecessor to 'English Nature') in in their efforts to protect bat species in our region. In 1984 the ‘Creswell Bat Group’ was formed with a total of 12 members. A few years later the name was changed to 'The North Notts Bat Group' in order to give a clearer picture of the area in which the bulk of the survey and P.R. work was being carried out. The main aim of the group is to promote a better understanding of bats within the public sector and we are very active in the North Nottinghamshire area. During the year we assist roost owners with 'batty' problems, conduct walks, give illustrated talks to numerous groups and associations, attend shows and exhibitions as well as interact with other bat groups neighbouring our county. If you feel you would like to become involved with bat work, or have any queries regarding bats, please browse our web pages, hopefully you will find some useful information, but if you can’t find the information you require please don’t hesitate to contact us. |
