Bramling Oast, Amsbury Farm My family and I have recently moved into one of the Oasts on Amsbury Farm. We have tried to find the history behind our new home but really can’t find anything of any real substance. Can anyone help!? We would really like to have some pictures at each stage of its long (and I am sure fascinating) history/life. Thanks |

Turner family Greetings from Christchurch NZ. Just wondering if anyone over there can help me trace some family I have found from Hunton. Nicholas Turner (1746-1835), Bricklayer was married to Sarah and they had six children, William, Mary, Nicholas, Sarah, Rebecca and Thomas all born between 1772 and 1784. I have descended from Nicholas (1775-1853) but wondered if there were any Turners still in Hunton or if anyone has traced the Turner family tree further. Thanks in advance for any information I can obtain. Wayne |

Researching Pattenden Worldwide Hello, After 25 years of researching the name Pattenden, I have just come across a marriage in Hunton in 1954 where the bride’s address was ‘Pattenden Forstal of this parish’: I can see Forstal Lane on your map but do you know anyone who has heard of ‘Pattenden Forstal’ in Hunton or any connection to Pattenden. I am familiar with Great and Little Pattenden in Marden and Pattenden Manor, Goudhurst, even Pattenden Gardens, East Peckham but I have not come across the name in Hunton before. The Barn, West Street I have just moved into The Barn, West Street, which I believe used to be part of the Gudgeon Farmhouse and was originally constructed around 1910. I wondered if anyone remembers how it used to look, or even better, has any pictures of it, before it was converted only 16 years ago. |

Autumn Cottage, Grove Lane My husband and I recently moved into Autumn Cottage in Grove Lane. I was advised that before the property was divided up, it used to be an old coaking inn in perhaps the 1700's, then various shops over the years. Does any one have any historical information they could provide me with, or even better, some old photographs, this would be very much appreciated. ThanksLinda |

The Gudgeon / Price of Wales Pub Hi I am aware that the Gudgeon Farmhouse was once The Prince of Wales Public House. My grandparents Alfred and Gertrude Newman were once the publicans of the pub sometime around 1970 to 1975 and I remember staying there as a young child looking after there dog ‘whiskey’ I would be grateful of any information or photo’s that you may have access to. Barn Hill House Hello, We are Sue and Ian Pinks and are busy building the new house in Barn Hill. We just wanted to let you know that the oak frame of the house is being delivered (after a few hiccups) tomorrow, Monday 3rd September, and the construction of the wood frame will be taking place over the next 2 weeks. We are told by others that this is quite an exciting process to watch and would just like to say to anyone who is interested, please do take a look - but be aware of all the safety issues that are in place on site and that we cannot take any responsibility for your personal safety. We are hoping to be able to move into the house in January/February - almost 2 years after we first saw the house. A long haul along the way, but we think it is worth the wait. We have lived in St. Mary's Platt, near Borough Green, for 23 years and been very involved in our village and will be sad to leave, but we are looking forward to our move to Hunton and getting involved with the village activities in Hunton. We look forward to meeting you before too long. Sue & Ian.

We moved into Gudgeon Farmhouse (formerly the Prince of Wales pub) in West Street Hunton 2 yrs ago and are gently renovating it.
We would be fascinated to know some of it's history as we know almost nothing! There are 2 dates on the main part of the house - 1857 and 1875 with the initials "WG" - the rear part of the house would appear 16th/17th century but we have no idea whether it was the original farmhouse or perhaps just outbuildings. If anybody could point us in the right direction we would be very grateful! Thank you Lisa Dolman |

I'm currently tracing my family tree and need a little "local" help. According to the 1881 census my ancestor was the Innkeeper at the Bull Inn in Hunton. The Inn was close to Clapper House. Can anyone enlighten me to whether the building which was the Bull Inn still stands?
I intend to visit Hunton soon but would be grateful for any advanced knowledge.
Thanking you in anticipation

I am descended from the DUDDY family from HUNTON. I have been researching
my family history for over 20 years. I have visited your beautiful village on
two occasions to look at the church and the churchyard. My ancestor left the
village in the mid 1800'sto live in Clerkenwell London and we then remained in
that area.

I am about to start on a sociology dissertation and would like to use some
of my research by comparing the two settings rural Hunton and urban London both
in the 19th century and the 21st, using the DUDDY family history as the base.
Although I have on numerous occasions visited the Maidstone Record Office and
will do again, I am looking for a local historian who I could contact, to
discuss the history in general terms. Possibly any descendants of the family
still living in the area and anyone who was born in the village and still lives
there to discuss the village as it is now, local farming, education, etc. In
fact anyone who knows the area then and now.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I wonder if there are still any HEMSLEY family members in the Hunton area? My ancestor was Elizabeth HEMSLEY, born here around 1832. She married Henry DYER (probably) in North london (maybe)- by 1861 she was described as his wife, but I've not yet found any record of a marriage. They went on to have several children - Henry died in 1898 and she returned to Langley Kent (1901 Census) and died in Hollingbourne in 1908. Any information/Family History contacts most welcome. |
