About Di Alexander's Art
|
I aim to capture the everyday lives of working people in past centuries. Hampshire has over 900 years of documented history and I my aim is to portray the lives and experiences of women in previous centuries. I was first encouraged by the work of the Woodfalls historical artist David Bennett. I began to use soft pastels in 2001 and the members and meetings of Totton Art Society have been an invaluable source of instruction and inspiration. I have also been influenced by other artists, such as Colchester portrait artist Jane Thornhill and Suffolk artist Margaret Glass. Many of my paintings are inspired by visits to re-enactment events, notably at Little Woodham, Butser Ancient Farm, King John's House and English Heritage sites (see the links page). My pictures are exhibited at the Summer Exhibition of Totton Art Society at the end of August - beginning of September.
