Summary |
I joined British Petroleum way back when Fulham were last in the First
division, (Well done boys on the promotion!) Surrey were regularly top of the County Championship
and the BP share price was about the equivalent to 50 pence. I studied mechanical engineering at
what was Woolwich Poly but now known as Thames University. For 6 months of each year of the 4
year course I gained work experience at two refineries, a gas turbine plant, Head Office in London
and a deep sea pipe laying barge off the coast of Italy. Since graduating I have some 28 years of
oil patch experience ranging from completion design, well workovers, process operations, project
engineering, technical support, training, HS&E and field management. The first 22 years of my
"working life" were with BP and the past 9 years as an independent consultant, basically on 2 assignments
(with a couple of time fillers in between). The first was with Lasmo and the other with Anadarko,
through Baker OTS. |

July 1997 - July 1999 |
Consultant Project Manager |
Anadarko |
Helped Anadarko, a US based small independent Oil Company, to develop various operation procedures and training materials and provided operational and technical support for their oil field developments in Algeria. Fortunately I only had to make one trip to Algeria. Having worked in Egypt and Pakistan on previous projects I was a little surprised to find Algeria lagging somewhat behind both of these countries. Not somewhere to rush off to on holiday.

February 1992 - December 1996 |
Consultant Project Engineer then Field Manager |
Lasmo |
The previous assignment was with LASMO. I worked for them for 5 years. Initially in London, then in Holland on their Markham development. This development comprised of an offshore gas production platform which produced into a complex offshore gathering system and onshore treatment facility. My roles included project engineering, commissioning, production allocations, Partner and Government interfaces and technical support. Once the facility had been operational for some time and most of the teething problems resolved I transferred to the Pakistan project. Another gas plant but this time using membrane technology for carbon dioxide and water removal. Initially I was based in the Foster Wheeler project design offices primarily involved in operations, maintenance and safety issues. I was then appointed as one of the Field Mangers responsible for the overall in country field operation. An interesting job with plenty of upsides as well as downsides.
