So who is DJ Hammy

Well my real name is David Hamilton, You will have to guess what my middle name is, if your that much of a trainspotter.....

I have just found out I also share my B'day with some geezer from Sum 41 (remember them?)
so it's celebrations all round?

to visit a gallery of Hammy through the years (yes it's more self indulgent stuff!!)

Allergy's: Bad back (very bad back at present and I have stabalising rods in my spine!!) & sinus problems?

Weight: Around 15 Stone

Eyes: Bloodshot blue.

Hair: Only on my back.

Height: 5ft 7" (sod metric, I'm old)

Born: Swaythling (still live there) so If it's you keeping me up all night you noisy student!! (look out!!)

Food: I am vegetarian because we do not need to eat meat to live and because I am horrified by the cruelty involved in factory farming just so the public can have their cheap meat.
Fast Food addicts beware. Please read Fast Food Nation
If the fields currently used to feed cattle were put over to growing crops we could feed the world.
Also factory ships are empptying the sea of fish whilst killing all sorts of marine life like Dolphins.

Pets: A rescue mutt called Bosun who's part Staffie and Alsatian. He is absolutely mad and is on a one dog crusade to rid the world of cylists, joggers, 10-15 year old Flower Road Chavs anybody who walks past our gaf!! He also hates hoovers, mowers, strimmers, drills etc etc. We also have one fish called Plop?
Are you interested in animal rights? I certainly am!

Wife: Emma we have been married over 10 years . She is fiery Aries and Is probably watching QVC or some other crapat the moment? She takes yer money on the door at the Rhino, so you can forget about the old i'm on the guest list routine?

Family: Unfortunately both of my parents have passed away. My dad was 44 when i was born and my mum 39. I have 3 older brothers and have been an uncle since i was 1?

Transport: VW T25 Camper Van (ideal for carrying my DJ gear and holidays but parts cost a fortune!!)
IF any one can recommend any VW dealers dealers/garages in Hants I'd be grateful.
Check out the Camper van page

Vespa T5 Classic scooter (dodgy front brake & a horn that sounds like a Duck fart but it doesn't breakdown like Lambretta's do)
Check out the scootering page

Fave places: Brixham , Lynmouth, Brighton, Sixpenny Hanley,Weymouth & Itchen Valley Country Park which is just as well as I spend every day there walking the dog!!.

Politics: I am neither left or right wing.I hated Thatcher and what she did to this country and the communities she destroyed but I blame the fat cat union leaders for ensuring Labour were voted out in 79.
I am appalled by the behavior of certain politicians in most parties, but believe you must vote as people died fighting for that right and to defend that right. What is the option if we don't defend democracy however corrupt ours is? We end up under a dictatorship or even worse have some religious power in charge.

Interests: (stop yawning) Music of course - faves, well I’ve lived through so many scenes there are to many to list but this is represented by what I play and advertise what I play. My fave band of all time are Joy Division (see left arm for tattoo), Mott the Hoople/Ian Hunter, Slade, Joe Gibbs (the mighty dub man), 10,000 Maniacs, The The, New Order etc.!! I love Ska, Dub Reggae, 70’s Punk/New wave, stomping Northern Soul and Glam Rock. But all the other stuff on the list I’m into.
Wanna know what my fave tunes are?

Clothes: Fred Perry polo shirts,Lee Rider Jeans, Ben Sherman short sleeve shirts, original sixties design from Merc Carnaby St, Harrington jacket, Doc Martin shoes with yellow stitching, cheap Dessert boots and Calvin Klein undies! I'd love to be a suedehead but i'd need a wig..
Check out the clothes shops where i get my gear from

Football: Southampton FC since 1969
Go to Footy page

Top Tip: As my mum always said to me when I was a nipper "always do your best and no one can criticise you" That is definately how I try to conduct my life.
.
Comedy: I just love the following. Old Ealing films, The Comic Strip, Young Ones, Likely Lads, Porridge, Time Gentlemen Please, Royal Family (though not the 1/3rd series), Dads Army,
(Other dads Army link) Steptoe & Son, Black Adder, Fast Show, Filthy Rich, Catflap, Father Ted,
John Shuttleworth
, Peepshow, Pheonix Nights & Paddy & Max,
Also a big shout to the long lost classic series that was Alexsie Sayle's Stuff
I can’t stand most American stuff, unless it’s Married with Children or Sabrina, You can stick Friends, Frazier, Cosby, and Cheers etc. up yer a***!!! Every American TV show hassome bloody moral message.
I also hate with a loathing Vic Reeves and his stooge Bob (I’m a lovey) Mortimer) Sorry but there was only one Morecambe and Wise?

TV programmes: Timeslip, The Prisoner,

Films: Das Boot, Monsoon Wedding , Brighton Rock, A Taste of Honey , Hard Boiled, Quadrophenia, School for Scoundrels, Apocalypse Now, Goodfella’s, Animal House, Spinal Tap, Party Party, Shawshank Redemption, Warriors, Wanderers, Scum ,Live and Let Die, Career Girls, Nuts in May, Carry On Camping?
The Wickerman, Last Orders, True Romance Get Carter (the original not the shocking US remake) & The Incredibles
And the winner is?

Fave Director: Mike Leigh, genius.

First Memory: Sitting in the giant Dalek in Woollies ?(it wasn’t that big really) (But it would have to be now?)
Check out the DR Who site

Fave Day: May Day 1976, F.A. Cup final, the day Saints beat Man Utd. Though a close second was the semi final against Palace, despite getting lumped by some Chelsea wanker? and last but not least my wedding day July 25 1997. Could have been May 17th 2003 but we lost the F.A. cup final this time.

Fave Book: The Lion Witch & the Wardrobe (I borrowed this from the libery when I was 7-8 and read it from start to finish and was hooked on reading from then on)
The Outsider by Albert Camut (The book that influenced the Cure's Killing An Arab)
Fast Food Nation which didn't so much shock me as to blow the bloody roof off!!
Nightshift
by Pete Mckena,
The Diary Of A Rock'n'Roll Star by Ian Hunter
Plus It might seem sad all the Adrian Mole series (Hail to Barry Kent working class yob made good) I think I based my image on him.

Biggest influence on my life: It has to be Punk!! It changed my life and way of thinking completely (got rid of Prog Rock for a while as well). I think its hard for any one under 40 to understand how bad music had become in 75-76. Punk just changed everything, mind you it's worse now chart wise, Anything good comes from the street underground.

Dislikes: Fox / Stag / Hunting, Hare coursing etc. etc.
As for those twats the Countryside Alliance and all the thugs who do their dirty work!!
I am so happy that hunting with dogs has been banned despite all those UN-elected parasites in the lords, who tried and tried to defy the will of the people.
I'm not complacent though and the fight to enforce the law and stop the Tory's from legalizing it again goes on.
As Oscar Wilde quoted about Fox hunting
"The unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable"
I wish they could set the dogs on this grade A, silver spoon tosser!!

Lazy People,

Apathy,

Cruelty to Animals (especially factory farming , factory fishing and needless experimentation)

Dodgy landlords who don't look after their properties and rip the tenant's off whilst living in Chilworth!!. (just take a look round swaythling to see why all the remaining families and locals have moved away)

Religion of any kind really does my head in. They are all superstitions created to keep people in their place, nothing more nothing less!! But what misery it has and still causes in the world. From Islamic fundamentalist terrorizing woman kind to noncy priests abusing little boys and girls I can't believe in this day and age it still holds the world in a vice like grip.
Be a humanist please.
Did you know that you still have to be a believer to become prime minister in this country? No wonder Neil Kinnock never got in power.
Well done to the French for banning religious clothing and imagery from schools. The sooner we do this the better and why we're at it get rid of all religious schools that stop children mixing. They do nothing but brew up hatred through ignorence.

Trouble makers who think its funny to cause bother on my nights (They don't do it twice!! Well not normally),

Car drivers who throw fag ends out of their cars when they have an ash tray to use and any litter louts of any kind really.

Boy F***in' Racers who spend all day and night driving past my home insisting I listen to some pair of 18" bass bins they have inserted in their back seats. (I live on the path of a by - pass)

McDonalds in Swaythling (Which has turned our area into a dustbin! Lazy food for lazy people!).

People I dislike: Anne Robinson, not for that over hyped past it's sell by date show, no, she get's the big pointy finger for being a big supporter of fox hunting (The words weakest link spring to mind) God I hate her with a loathing!! She's also zenophobic.

David F***in' Beckham, Why? for making millions out of wearing Adidas football boots made out of Kangaroo skins whilst these beautiful creatures are slaughtered in their thousands. Blood money you attention seeking thoughtless to**er!! You'll love Spain, perhaps the odd bull fight etc etc will satisfy you.

The Royal family A big fanfare please for this inbred bunch of Germans for sponging off the rest of us and treating us as subjects (I am nobody's bloody subject thank you and who voted them in to power?)

Tony Blair,That hypocrite and all round smug git ( And for copping out with the fox hunting ban as well as lying the F*** about those weapons) .

Jane, a nasty bitch assistant manager at Thursdays club who was the main reason I left first time around. Dear Jane being obnoxious to your customers doesn't inspire them to return to your club!!?

Kevin John a nasty Nigel seventies style DJ who told me when I worked at Riverside club that I would never make it and I was the worse DJ he'd ever come across. He didn't have a clue about music.
He really was a grade A tosser and ex top rank DJ which says it all..

Richard Littlejohn -enough said!!

Arthur Scargil and all the other 70's Union fat Cats who were / are more like dictators and were responsible for Thatcher getting in.

Maggie Thatcher who sent hundreds to their death to save her own bacon. She could have stopped the Falklands ever getting invaded but decided to leave a certain island unmanned. Is she really of this planet? I wish she wasn't!!

Lastly,The Useless right on Twats who run our Council.
Oh I almost forgot, Bullies of any kind!!

Places I miss: The old Southampton Lido, Why havent we got something like this any more? It was better than a bloody West Quay car park. Butlins at Minehead and Bognor from 65-77 I had amazing holidays there until Rank bought them out. It then went all Americana and down hill.

People I admire: To many to mention but I do have a lot of time for Patrick Moore and his stance on animal cruelty. Though he does have some strange political views

Hopes & Ambitions: To get my back sorted out so that I can walk and stand properly again. To finally get the renovations finished on the Hamilton gaff, Reverse the building on greenbelt land and the reforestation of the earth (I can but hope), Keep DJ'ing as long as the body lets me / employers still want me. To get an education as although I have a degree in life studies I got bugger all at school ( there was no chance of that at Glen Eyre (now Cantell) in the 70's)

Worst things to happen while DJ'ing: (Apart from running out of Scotch) Having my CDs stolen 3 times. Once from the back of my car in '91(this nearly killed me off big time as my whole collection worth £6000 went. The second time was from the West Park Tavern in 94, the estranged bastard husband of the landlady thought he could ruin her via ruining me(allegedly). Lastly from outside The Joiners in '97, Matt leaving the boot unlocked didn't help! I was lucky the greedy bastard tried to come back for more, having already taken 4 boxes. We chased him for about a half hour around St Mary's & Northam finally catching him on a industrial estate. I beat the crap out of him before the cops took the scumbag away. Got the CD's back as well!! Many many thanks for Toby for helping out in the chase and for getting the police so quickly whilst we held the toe rag!!

Worst things to happen to me: My dad dying of bone cancer back in 88. My dog Buster dying in my arms 6 years ago. The trouble I have had over 28 odd years with my back and the resulting walking/standing problems.

Best gigs: Status Quo at So'ton Mayflower 75 the place rocked like fuck and the balcony should have collapsed.(Why can't your heroes split up before they get embarrassing!)

Special AKA at Bournemouth Town Hall '79 before any one had heard of them, I dumped the punk leather and brothel creepers after that night and spent the next day hunting round Oxfam shops looking for old sta press trousers and small labelled jackets.

Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, The Models, The Killjoys, So'ton Top Rank '77. The first big punk gig I attended and the one that changed my life forever. Thunders was in The New York Dolls, The Models featured Marco from Adam & the Ants whilst Killjoys singer was none other than Kevin Rolan later of Dexy's Midnight Runners. Ah happy days. I poured beer all over myself and ripped my jumper to bits!! Well thats what I thought you were meant to do!

Clash Top Rank So'ton 77 & 79

New Order & Julian Cope, Glastonbury 86 (These two could be a year either way as my memory was very hazy after a trip to Glasto!

The Godfathers Valentines Day 88? at the old refectory So'ton Uni.One for jed Babey!!

Happy Mondays Brighton '89 (the start of baggy)

Blur, Oasis & Pulp at Glasto 94 when Britpop was still underground.

Joy Division Bournemouth Winter Gardens with the Buzzcocks 79. It didn't last long as Ian Curtis fell off the stage!!
New Order in Brighton in '81, Their first gig after the Joy Division demise. We cried you know and took a convoy down there.

Worst gigs: Black Grape at the Guildhall in'97 a total shambles (Ryder was carried in and carried out. They only woke him up for the gig and proceeded to fuck up all the PA settings.

Ocean Colour Scene, So'ton Guildhall 98. Worse than watching paint dry or listening to Eric Clapton. Bloody awful!

New Order Top Rank '84. Because of Blue Monday all the twats had got into them, and the band had obviously discovered coke and not the fizzy pop variety!!

Wanna know what bands I have seen over the years?

CLUB/CAREER HISTORY

It all started back in 1980 at a dingy club at the bottom of St Mary’s Street, the venue (the Rio Grand) had been a Country and Western venue but when we started (we being my mate Gary and myself) it ended up like the Wild West. The Club site is now student halls of residence. I got the night by pestering the DJ at the Magnum club to play punk and two tone tunes and he got so fed up with me keeping on that he got us A Tuesday night at the said club. I will go into the various clubs I’ve worked at in more depth in the near future.(more stories of scandal etc.!!)

Over & Out! anyway that's the self indulgent bit out of the way and I hope you're more enlightened.

(I don't mean to offend anyone with my views, the are purely my own so please don't take offence if you disagree with with them. On the other hand if you support fox hunting and the like I don't want you any where near my nights!!) I also appologise for the copious use of swear words on this page, when I'm angry I'm angry.

Thanks for your time
Hammy.
