Internet Support for the Critchley Strikers

Best wishes in your fight against de-recognition at Critchely Labels.

Let's hope you can win and demand that after the Election, the Labour Government delivers legislation that outlaws company's like Critchley Labels in Wales de-recognising trade unions.

Keep up the fight!!!

FIET is the international trade union organisation for the private service sector representing over 11 1/2 million workers from 400 trade unions in 120 countries world-wide.

On behalf of our members and the FIET World Executive Committee, we salute the courage and comitment of the workers at the Critchley Label Technology plant in their fight for fundamental trade union rights.

The current wave of union rights violations world-wide is indicative of the challenges facing the international labour movement in the new global economy. Governments and employers alike have taken deregulation to its extremes and applied it also to the world's labour markets.

We cannot allow this to continue and we must be united in fighting manifestations of union rights violations at all levels: global, national and local.

Your fight is our fight and your victory will be a victory for trade unionists world-wide.

Yours fraternally

Philip Jennings
General Secretary

"Any group of workers which stands up against uncaring management is fighting for all of us, especially on an issue like redundancy that has such a profound effect on the lives of employees and their families. Too often nowadays, companies take all of us for granted and give little consideration to our interests when cuts are made.

Good luck with your struggle. Solidarity from the Lambeth local government branch of UNISON, the public service union. Please let me know if you are sending any speakers to London to collect money and spread support for your strike.

I would like to give you my best wishes in your struggle to defend your jobs and trade unionism itself.

UNISON members in Sheffield Council are on a half day strike this Friday (7/3/97) against threatened compulsory redundancies.

In solidarity

I was very concerned (I nearly said 'surprised' as well but nothing surprises me much with the climate created by the present government) to hear about the sacking of 31 employees from the plant at Critchley.

It is disgusting that the bosses on the site can make such a unilateral decision - and seemingly get away with it. So the Critchley workers certainly have my support.

Good luck,
David Dreebin

The unions are there for the employees - by law what rights does the employer have to get them to quit - this is blatantly overstepping the mark.

All the best in your efforts.

Regards

Paul Gray
