[Berrezag - recording] The UN Decolonization Committee has been discussing the Western Sahara issue for the third day running. The committee has listened, with particular attention, to some of the speeches which, for the first time, revealed disturbing news about Moroccan political manoeuvres aimed at delaying the referendum in Western Sahara.
A US speaker, who is a former commander of the US regiment within Minurso [Mission of the UN for referendum in Western Sahara], strongly criticized Morocco's pressure and intimidation against Minurso's officials and Saharan citizens wanting to register their names on the electoral lists.
He also reviewed Morocco's manipulations and corruption attempts and the numerous manoeuvres aimed at falsifying the electoral lists.
Moreover, the US military official talked about Morocco's interference in Minurso's affairs concerning the Western Sahara issue by putting the telephone and all means of communication under continuous tapping.
The same official praised Polisario's cooperation with Minurso. Other speeches were made to denounce Morocco's serious violations of human rights in Western Sahara. The speech of the Algerian delegate is expected to take place today.
