Largymore Primary School Time Line

1842
Captain Bolton acquires a plot of land on what is now 94/96 Hillhall Road, Lisburn. The school was then called "Bolton's School".
1847
Class Size 155 for one teacher.
1856
Classroom assistant appointed -"female" only because the principal was "middle aged ( 30) respectable and married" and they and a workmistress taught 214 children.

1869
Inspection Report - "not as orderly as it should be".
1870
On the death of Captain Bolton the school was placed under the National Board of Education and since that date has been known as Largymore Primary School.
1874
School enlarged by Sir Richard Wallace and increased in capacity again in 1881.
1901
The school was placed under the auspices of the Cathedral.
1906
A new school is built on the site of what is now Rooms 13 - 18 and the American strategy of education was adopted so that one teacher would be responsible for a minimum of 45 children. Mr. J. Milne Barbour MP personally subsidised a science laboradory which was of the highest specicifcations at the time available.
1957
School increases in size throughout the period of the wars and eventually the extension and modernisation is complete. One of the most modern and innovative features being the interior garden and goldfish pond which has taxed many principals on how best to use it. On one occasion 100 animals occupied the site happily content to feed on school dinners.
