Brighton Pier to Pier Open Water Sea Swim

The race is an annual event run by Brighton Swimming club and has some 100 swimmers each year taking part. This year Dover Lifeguard club had 6 swimmers compete. These were from left to right in the photo below: Adam Knight, Blair Charge, Craig Simmons, (Top) Guy Hadfield, Kayleigh Stevenson and Mark Simmons (Bottom).

The race started at 2:00pm and was swum from the West pier to the East pier. The lead was heavily contested between Craig Simmons and Adam Knight, however Craig won the event by a hands length. Both swimmers were awarded the same time of 18mins 51secs. Dover Lifeguard club also won the team prize for the first 4 swimmers from a single club home. The team was made up of Craig, Adam, Mark and Blair. All the Dover swimmers finished in the top 15 places, which was the best performance to date for Dover. Kayliegh finished 3rd Lady in 22mins, which again was a very good result being the first time she had swum the event. This was an excellent days racing from the Dover swimmers on a very hot Brighton sea front.
