Highly unusual being American design but made in Portugal! I can not find any reference to this in my books but this looks like a late Ansonia design with rack strike and a separate alarm mechanism. It looks great with a gilt pendulum and dial pan. The dial has been refinished and the movement is in perfect working order. Height 23.5", circa 1900. |

Lacquered wood case with marbleized adornments, incised decoration and a pretty fretted gilt brass dial. Less usual serpentine shaped top. ~circa 1890~ The movement is the typical 8 day with gong hourly strike and passing half strike on a bell - Clean and running The charm of these clocks is the slightly shabby appearance that time lends to them - the lacquer wears off the edges - making them ideal for a cozy country retreat. height12" width 14 3/4" depth 6"

Ansonia Regulator 'A'Classic American wall clock with 8-day movement and large visible pendulum. It has been in my office for 2 years and so keeps great time! The case is mahogany veneered and has the usual ebonised ring around the dial. The dial has been replaced with a new one fitted to the original gilt brass surround - the old paper dial was just too rough and I think probably been replaced once anyway. Circa 1890. |
