STUNNING PAIR of TRANSFER WARE VEGETABLE TUREENS

~~ BLUE ROSE BORDER ~~

Very nice square almost quatrefoil shape with crisply molded and detailed 'feathers' knop to the lids.  Good mid to dark blue transfer with blue/gray lead glaze.  Pastoral scene on the lid depicts a girl with gorgeous large retriever type dog carrying a basket (clever dog! mine would eat the contents of the basket...and the basket) and man gathering firewood in the foreground.  Farmer, plough and team of horses, and cottage in the near background.  Distant background has ruined Abbey on a cliff top.  The Abbey looks very like Whitby Abbey from inland but I have been unable to attribute this.  Interior of the tureen has a pastoral scene of a man and woman beside a river, gothic building in the back ground.  Both are bordered in 'Blue Rose Border'.  Condition is excellent, one tureen has tiny tiny old chip, one lid has miniscule flake, no other chips, cracks, hairlines or restorations.  Display is absolute perfection.....stunning!

Impressed mark to base 'Borstrand' and printed cobalt 'C' or crescent, see picture.  Circa 1830/40

10 inch square x 5 1/2 inch high to top of knop.
