list of countries and their TV systems is as complete as we can make it and is a guide to
TV transmission systems around the world. |

transmission standard is used for TV broadcasts. Most
people in a country will have equipment compatible with this for
playing and recording tapes.
Currently whatever TV
transmission standard you are using, the VHS cassette is
the most popular tape format.

| The
three world television standards are NTSC, PAL and SECAM. |
| NTSC
- National Television Standards Committee, 525 lines, 30
frames per second. This is the system used in America and
Japan |
PAL
- Phase Alternation by Line, 625 lines, 25 frames per
second.
This is the system used in the UK. PAL and its variants
are used in the following countries; *Brazil uses PAL-M,
NTSC VHS will play there. |
SECAM
- Sequence de Couleur a Memoire, 625 lines, 25 frames per
second.
This is the system used in France. |
