George Markie born 1st February 1851 in Northampton, Son of George Markie and Ann Hensman. He married Fanny Birch of 30 Uxbridge Road, Burton on Trent on the 19th November 1873 at the Registery Office, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.
Fanny Birch was born 22nd December 1855 and was the daughter of William & Fanny Birch.(Nee Peace)
On the 22nd January 1874 George & Fanny Markie along with William & Fanny Birch left Portland, Dorset England on the ship DORETTE bound for Auckland New Zealand.
The ship took just 76 days and arrived on the 14th April 1874,at Hobson wharf Auckland but was quarantined on arrival and so landed after 83 days.
The ships passanger lists show the family with a spelling mistake and so appear as MARKLEY.
As far as i know this is the start of the Markie family tree in New Zealand and now Australia.
