Robins stalemate

Super subs keep Darlo on course

A last-minute bolt-from-the-blue from sub Neil Wainwright made it three wins in a row for Darlo at Torquay.

The match seemed to be heading for a 1-1 stalemate, when Wainwright struck through a crowded penalty area. Fellow sub Akpo Sodje had neatly flicked in an equaliser on 67 minutes, prompting a period of purposeful pressure.

There wasn't a lot for 'keeper Sam Russell to do before that, with the home side going ahead from a corner, although they rarely threatened to make their first half possession count. Matt Clarke and Shelton Martis had excellent games at the back.

There was a good Darlo turnout, with quite a few fans enjoying the sunny weather and many down for a weekend.

Kandol kills off dire Darlo

Barnet all but ended Darlo's fading play-off hopes, thanks to a Tresor Kandol goal on 80 minutes. Inevitably the former Darlo loanee had a say, after a frustrating game against a struggling side. Make that two struggling sides. Apart from the exempted Ryan Valentine, Sam Russell and Shelton Martis, we lack quality and conviction all over the pitch. Different combinations of strikers were used, but none looked dangerous. Jemal Johnson showed his skills at times but didn't have an attempt at goal.

The game only really livened up in the last 15 minutes, when both sides pressed to end the stalemate. Kandol, who had been quiet, was given a free header and scored with a deflection. We look ragged, with a rag-bag of loan signings and, frankly, some players who have had better days. One thing that fans were saying on the way out, was it's time to give some of the youngsters a chance. And after today's showing, they couldn't do any worse.

Top is a great photo of a wonder goal at Orient. Sadly, it was in our net...and way beyond the reach of Sam Russell from Shane Tudor.
