History: Droylsden was originally formed in 1892 at the invitation
of the landlord of the Butchers Arms, to play behind the pub. The
village team survived intact after World War One but adopted its
red kit, the nickname the Bloods. It became a nursery club for
Manchester City for a period in the 1930s. Droylsden for most of its history has been in the local Manchester, Cheshire and Northern leagues. But they lost first their place in
the Cheshire League and their home to a rival club before returning
in the 1950s. Two notable FA Cup appearences, first in 1976 when
they lost 5-3 in a First Round Replay at Grimsby but in 1978 won
1-0 at Rochdale before losing to Altrincham win. Their high point
was one season in the Blue Square Premier before relegation to the
Blue Square North for this season.

From North: Leave the M1 at junction 42 for the M62. Leave at junction
20, then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A627(M) signposted
Oldham and the A627(M), then onto the M60. From the M60, leave at
Junction 23, (signposted A635 Manchester). Join A635 towards Manchester,
1.25 miles from ground. Look out for a Macdonalds sign and a retail
park on the left and keep in the centre lane, before turning right
at traffic lights onto the A662 signposted Droylsden). After 100
yards at traffic lights the road bends left. After half a mile at
the next lights turn right onto Market Street. Pass throught the
next set of traffic lights and the ground is 225 yards on left.
Distance from Darlington: 110 miles
You'll have to make do with street parking and a nearby
shopping centre pay-and-display (space limited).

There is no local station
in Droylsden. Trains aren't much use, especially for an evening
match. Ashton Under Lyne station is 2.5 miles away but if forced
to travel by public transport you're better off getting a bus in
and out of central Manchester, which is 4.5m away.

Bus: From Piccadilly bus station (stop D), catch bus numbers
216 and 236/237 - a 20-25 minute trip and 4.5 miles - getting off
at the corner of Medlock Street/Market Street (stop C). By Lloyds
TSB, just after Tesco (on the left) turn left at the lights, and
the ground is 200 yards left ( two mins walk away). Ask for an Ashton Day Saver, which is around £2.20.

There is the Phoenix Social Club at the ground, which normally allows visiting fans inside. Serves Tetley and Carlsberg, and also light snacks.
