Local facts in
brief:
Grangetown takes
its name from the settlement which grew up around the old Grange Farm,
once owned by the monks of Margam Abbey near Port Talbot. The old buildings
can still be seen in Clive Street.

The new library building opened in September 2006. As well as
a large selection of fiction and non-fiction books (including a
good sprinkling of new hardback titles), there are videos, DVDs
and CDs in English and Asian languages for one-week loans (small
fee). Books in Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Arabic, Welsh and Chinese.
Free internet access on nine computers for members - free to join,
take two forms of ID with address (one with signature), under 16's
need a note from parents.

a long history for local sporting teams, including baseball and
rugby going back more than 100 years. There are also all-weather

Sevenoaks Park, Virgil St/Sloper Road Also known locally as "The Tan," after the long-gone tannery, this park is also popular with football and baseball teams. The seven oaks give its name and it is bordered too by the railway.

Age Concern Cardiff/Vale
Advocacy Service, provides free and confidential information and
advice for all people over 60. They provide support with health and housing
matters, residential, nursing care and a wide range of other issues relevant
to older people. If they can't help then they help to put you in touch
with those that can - such as social services, occupational therapy and
other agencies. Help can be provided with practical tasks such as letter-writing,
form-filling and making telephone calls. Out-reach service at Butetown

BOAT TAXI Taff Mead Embankment, Grangetown to Cardiff
Bay. Operated by Cardiff CATS,
the service runs seven days a week, running to Mermaid Quay and the Barrage.
The round trip costs (2007) £5 for adults, £2.50 single, with
services intially leaving the Taff spot every hour or so from 11.30am
to 4.30pm. In the winter, a boat taxi runs from Cardiff Castle as a request
stop at Taff Mead, roughly on the hour, to Mermaid Quay - the return journey
is on the half hour until about 5.30pm.
