LIST: Quakermen for 2007/2008
Goalkeepers
  13 David Stockdale
Leeds-born 'keeper, 22, who started
his career in the York City youth team. He signed an extended contract after
a string of clean sheets, which kept Andy Oakes out of the team.

City. The ex-Walsall and Derby keeper, 30, started his league career at
Hull City.

Defenders
23 Ryan Valentine
SIGNED ON LOAN - JANUARY 2008
A second spell at the club, returning from his home town team Wrexham
on loan. The popular and dependable ex-Wales under 21 left back, can
also play on the right and midfield if required.
4 Alan
White
SIGNED JULY 2007 Signed from Notts
County as part of Darlo's defensve makeover (pictured left).
Has put in some strong performances with the central defensive partnership
keeping a very tight rein on opposition defences.
2
Neil Austin
JOINED JUNE 2007: The 24-year-old
was a regular for Barnsley, able to operate as a full back on either
flank.
|

5 Stephen
Foster
SIGNED JULY 2007 Signed from Scunthorpe,
where he was player of the year, Foster was installed as the new captain
by Dave Penney as he looked to shake up his defence and made an immediate
impact as a colossus at the back.
3
Tim Ryan
Brought in from Boston United in
the January transfer window, Dave Penney knows the experienced left
back from his time at Doncaster, when the 32-year-old helped win successive
promotions.
22
Kevin Burgess
Ex-Middlesbrough youngster, recruited in January. Can play in the centre of defence or at right back. Expected to act as cover.
6 Ian Miller
Essex-born defender who signed from Ipswich permanently after two loan spells.

| Midfield
7
Neil Wainwright
Winger signed from Sunderland
who is a genuine wide man, "Wainy" (as he's inevitably nicknamed)
is very committed in the tackle but drifted in and out of the side
under Tommy Taylor. He returned from a loan spell at Shrewsbury in November after being on the bench. Can make an impact on either flank.
|
14
Ricky Ravenhill
JOINED JANUARY 2007: Another ex-Doncaster
man from their promotion seasons, picked up by Dave Penney from Grimsby.
|
19 Martin Smith
SIGNED
JUNE 2006. Smith, 31, returned to his native north east from promoted
Northampton in June 2006, who did their best to keep him. This speaks
volumes and it also means we have an experienced strikeforce. The
ex-Sunderland and Huddersfield winger/forward (pictured right)
had a one in four goal scoring record for the Cobblers and quickly
got off the mark at his new club. He had a mixed season and was hit by injuries towards the end and isn't likely to be back in action at the start of the season.
 11
Rob Purdie
JOINED JUNE 2007: Signed on a two-year
deal from Hereford, where he was captain and a player of the year.
Can play in central midfield or left back. The 24-year-old started
his career as a teenager at Leicester City, before five years at Edgar
Street. |

10 Clark
Keltie
Appointed captain after he made
a bit of an impact in the 2002-2003 season, as a 19-year=old. His
career has been hit with injury but he's earned his place back in
midfield under David Penney |

18
Kevin McBride
SINCE RELEASED: Winger, 26, signed from
Motherwell, ex-Celtic.
|
8 Michael
Cummins
SIGNED MAY 2006 Could prove to be an important signing
from Port Vale in May - the Irish ex-Boro midfielder gets his fair
share of goals and could be the play-maker, Darlo have been crying
out for. He took a while to get going but seems to be showing his best form since the arrival of Dave Penney as manager.

12. Julian Joachim
Became Darlington's record signing
when he joined in August 2006 for £100,000 - ironically two days after
scoring twice to beat Darlo 4-1 for Boston United. The former Villa,
Leeds and Coventry forward has plenty of experience and still plenty
of pace and guile to cause problems at this level. He had an inconsistent
first season but settled well in his second campaign, playing on the
wing but still getting his share of the goals.
16 Gregg
Blundell
A
2007 deadline day signing from Chester and another former Doncaster
man brought in by Dave Penney. Seems to be a willing runner and a
100% player, who if he can steer clear of injury, could be an important
source of goals.
|
 20 Tommy
Wright
A reputation as a battling and hard-working forward,
who joined for a small fee from Barnsley in January 2007 and scored
on his debut. The 22-year-old started at Leicester City. Sporting
a new hair-cut, he started the season in great form and is scoring
regularly
24 Sean Reay
Youngster who has made four appearences so far in
his career.
29 Kevin
Gall
SIGNED JANUARY 2008 - ON LOAN FROM CARLISLE: Ex-Yeovil
striker (pictured right) who is providing options in the promotion push.
30 Richie Foran
ON LOAN FROM SOUTHEND: Irish striker who joined on
loan in November. Has spent time at Carlisle and Motherwell before
his £200,000 move to Roots Hall.
9 Pawel Abbott
SIGNED IN JULY 2007: Moved back north from Swansea for £100,000 after a short spell in Wales. He was a prolific scorer for Huddersfield before that and is still only 25. His height and experience at a higher level were brought to provide a real threat. |

Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu
SIGNED JANUARY 2008 Darlington completed the surprise signing of Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu
on a free transfer from Gillingham, before he took a seat on the bench
for the 1-0 home victory over Accrington Stanley.
The return of "Dave" to the Darlington Arena was certainly the big name
signing we'd hoped for, with eight syllables. He was a popular fixture
for us, achieving near cult status while scoring some important
goals during his first spell in the 2005-2006 season. He then meandered
off to Cardiff City, Gillingham and lately on loan to Bradford.
He will put pressure on the strikers, and while Pawel Abbott is injured.
